Malta presents the all-new electro-thermal energy storage system. It is a new grid-scale technology that collects and stores energy for long durations. It has the added advantage that energy derived from any source at any location can be stored, making the operation of the malta grid to be very reliable and predictable.
Malta's electro-thermal energy storage system is built upon well-established principles in thermodynamics. When charging (taking electricity from the grid) the system converts electricity to heat, in molten salt, and as cold in a chilled liquid. In these forms, this energy can be efficiently stored for long durations.
Collection- energy is collected in the form of solar, wind, or fossil generators on the grid as electrical energy to be sent to Malta’s energy storage system. Conversion- the electricity drives a heat pump that serves the purpose of converting electrical energy in thermal energy through temperature difference.
